Urban Sight
Between E. John and E. Glen on 18th Ave E | Seattle, WA 98122
Located a few blocks from the vibrancy of Capitol Hill, in an area undergoing rapid transition to townhouses and apartments, we came across a tired 1903 home located between two apartment buildings. Instead of taking it down, we picked it up (literally and metaphorically) and moved it west on the lot by approximately 25 feet, and made it livable, but still in need of refreshing. The young family that purchased it from us went on to completely renovate and restore the home - It's incredible! We focused on creating three modern abodes behind it: adding density, options, and energy to the area. Utilizing steel and glass, the new triplex sits well behind its older counterpart, it's there but only if you know where to look. The incongruity is fantastic - new and old connecting on this tight urban lot. The new homes use collected rainwater for their toilets, have custom cabinets throughout, heated concrete floors, superior insulation and triple pane windows. Completed in 2014
